Testing 1 to 3: The Swiss Session
The second edition of Testing 1 to 3 took place at Bodo’s Schloss, this time with the focus on the best contemporary music that Switzerland has to offer.
Four exceptional acts – Baba Shrimps, Veronica Fusaro, Death by Chocolate and The Souls – took to the stage in order to showcase their musical wares, whilst delegates partook of a sneaky post-lunch Swiss wine or two and delicious traditional Swiss food, all courtesy of our hosts Act Entertainment, ABC, Deepdive Music, and Swiss Live Talents.
The new pop sensation from little Switzerland. Three young musicians with their stunning and heartwarming interpretation of contemporary pop music. Baba Shrimps show innovative songwriting that amazingly mixes pithy folk songs with pulsating synthesizers and sweaty beats. Shortly before the release of their debut album 'NEON' (2014) the band was discovered and signed worldwide by Sony Music. The album was a huge hit and quickly rose to prominence in the Swiss charts. In the wake of the album’s success, the band played gigs in over 200 clubs and festivals (eg Gurtenfestival, Zurich Openair) and supported Kings of Leon and Kodaline.
With her calm, intensive voice, Veronica Fusaro sings about all the little things, and with a little help of a few instruments, she makes them sound big. Veronica taught herself everything she needed to produce her first EP in her parents' basement. This resulted in 'Lost in Thought' – a collection of five songs about hope, fear, the world and life – calmly played but with a big impact on everyone who listens to it. Veronica Fusaro is currently working on her next EP, and is touring around Switzerland with her band.
Death by Chocolate
'Crooked For You' is the latest and third studio album by Death by Chocolate, reflecting on life as a rock musician in Switzerland, a country in which the more rocky sounds face a tough road to reach the masses. The band’s story is akin to a certain AC / DC song, but with the last verse still to be played. Death by Chocolate have played hundreds of concerts, driven thousands of miles and are earning a reputation as one of the best live bands in Switzerland. Some of the band’s highlights so far include supporting Bon Jovi at Zurich's Letzigrund; playing the main stage at Polish Woodstock; performances in the Whiskey A Go Go, Viper Room and Roxy in Los Angeles; tours throughout Europe, alone and as support for The Blue Van, The Answer and others; and a west coast tour through America from Phoenix to Seattle.
When the six members of The Souls are on stage, one can feel the spark, whether they are playing in front of 15,000 people in the Zurich Hallenstadion or casting a spell on the audience in smaller and more intimate stages, with their pacey and melancholic sound. The Souls have played over 300 concerts and supported bands like Kodaline, The 1975, Kensington and Silbermond. Their EP-trilogy was recorded in Switzerland, Stockholm, Berlin and London in collaboration with such producers as Ronald Blood (Mando Diao) and Luk Zimmermann (Lunik), and paved the way for their 2016 debut album, 'Eyes Closed.'
