Introducing today’s teenagers to the world of live entertainment can be a demanding task, but in recent years, the leisure activities of the next generation audience has delivered a new genre of shows to the tour circuit – those involving YouTube and Vine stars. With the biggest online video personalities boasting millions of followers, many are now developing touring shows to showcase their talents, selling out theatres and even arenas, internationally. Examining this relatively new phenomenon, Dan Steinberg talks to some of the early adopters in the business who’re generating new income from this new entertainment genre.

Chair's Biog | Dan "Steiny" Steinberg

STEINBERGThe co-founder of Emporium Presents, Dan started producing club shows at the Mercury Café in Denver at the age of sixteen. After graduating high school in 1993, he joined 2B Announced Presents as a talent buyer, and after college relocated to Seattle in 2002 promoting under the name Dan Steinberg Presents, later re-branded as Square Peg Concerts in 2004. In 2015, Square Peg merged with Jason Zink’s Sherpa Concerts taking on the name of Emporium Presents and producing live events all over the US and Canada. Dan was nominated Independent Promoter of the Year seven times by 'Pollstar' and was a member of the Concert Industry Consortium Panels in 2002 and 2004. He has also moderated panels at Pollstar Live, SxSW, IAVM, Billboard Tour, as well as CMW, and is known for treating panelists to ‘patron and donuts.’ Yeah, you never know what the Jew will do, and yes it’s true his actual twitter handle is @TheJew. Emporium Presents promotes all forms of live entertainment with past highlights including shows by comic Kathy Griffin, Jason Mraz, Straight No Chaser, Kris Kristofferson w/ Merle Haggard, Daniel Tosh, The Scorpions, Keith Urban, Indigo Girls, Trailer Park Boys, Yo Gabba Gabba, John Prine, The Avett Brothers, Dream Theater, Eric Church, Dolly Parton, The Black Keys, Godsmack, BB King, Home Free, and Cheech and Chong. Dan also hosts the live touring industries biggest podcast – Promoter101. 

Speaker's Biog | Alex Bewley

Alex Bewley WMEAlex is an agent in WME’s digital department, specialising in digital talent crossover. He played an integral role in setting up the digital department in WME’s London office, and represents influencers including Ben Phillips, Eh Bee Family and Lilly Singh. Alex started at the William Morris Agency in 2008, and transitioned to WME in 2009 following the agency’s merger with Endeavor. Prior to that, he achieved an honours degree in music business from the Academy of Contemporary Music. Born in Sydney, Australia, Bewley currently resides in London.

marc lambelet 2Active in the music-business for more than 25 years, Marc is the managing director, co-owner (partner) and head of the Lausanne office of Mainland Music AG. Mainland Music was formed 3 years ago by the merging of 4 other long existing companies; Abart, Redda, Cult Concerts and Marc’s Black Lamb Productions. The Swiss promoter is headquartered in Zürich and promotes and books over 550 shows a year in Switzerland at 100 to 13,000 capacity venues, as well as festivals including M4Music, Open Air Gampel and Metropop. Marc is also the European agent for several international acts, among them BirdPen (UK) and US rock band Nada Surf.

MarkWalkerWhen Live Nation MD Stuart Galbraith left and started up Kilimanjaro Live in 2007, Mark jumped at the chance to follow him and has gone on to promote shows with the likes of Katy Perry, You Me At Six, Parkway Drive, Alkaline Trio and partnered with Kevin Lyman to take the Vans Warped Tour across Europe. In 2013, Mark was introduced to the world of YouTube and digital superstars when he began working with the creators of UK gathering Summer in the City in an event management capacity. Mark has gone on to promote tours with digital stars including Tyler Oakley, Lily Singh, Kian N JC, Magcon, Emma Blackery, and Rachel Brathen (Yoga_Girl). Mark identified a gap in the market for a management solution offering stars of the digital world a way into more traditional media outlets and in early 2016 Free Focus was born.
